Mixson Mingle Jingle

Happy Friday the 13th! I’m fast and furiously working on getting some new bags ready for tomorrow’s Mixson Mingle Jingle. I hope the weather holds out.

UPDATE: Due to the impending rain, the event has been moved into the Club Room at Basico and MB&RC. 4399 McCarthy Street at Mixson.

Have a safe and fabulous weekend!

Bon Weekend – Black Light Fun

Michael is always looking for a chance to play with his black/uva light device. We have a small collection of vaseline/uranium/ouraline glass and are always looking to add to our collection. We have smaller version we carry with us when we’re hunting for vaseline glass. We’ve been asked how we’ve created some of the effects, so I thought I’d share a few things.

Our Halloween displays used a more focused exposure to the light as we were shooting in daylight and we were using a diluted solution for the specimen jars.

Our vaseline bowl, which was achieved by moving the light from the side, up over the top and to the other side. Rinse, lather and repeat for the duration of the timer.

Bon weekend – to Market we go!

It will be a busy weekend coming up with tomorrow at the Charleston Farmers Market and Sunday at the Maker’s Market at Mixson! Several of my fellow CFM vendors will be at Mixson. I had great time last month even though we got rained out after several hours. Met some great people, had some great food and drinks and loved the music.

I hope it’s a safe and fabulous Labor Day Weekend for everyone!

Bon Weekend – Meanwhile on Apartment Therapy…

Bon Weekend – Nice surprises

It’s been another slow week here blogwise. I have added more to already heavy DIY list and if I get any of them finished I’ll probably have content for a month! We were thrilled at this surprise popping up from the open compost pile on Wednesday… a sweet Alocasia. I have no idea when we tossed any tubers, but somehow one got in the pile so it was quite a shock when we actually stuck our heads over the fence instead of just tossing over yard refuse.

Here’s to a safe and fabulous weekend!

Bon Weekend

I saw this amazing installation of giant fish made from discarded plastic bottles rising from the sands of Botafogo beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil last week and had to share! Hopefully I’m not the one of the last people to see this. 😉 I found these photos and info on the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) at Colossal. The photos of the fish at night are pretty spectacular.

Bon Weekend – Operation Jurassic Park

The new fence is up around the pond. I was originally cracking ‘Escape From New York/Snake Plissken’ jokes but Michael thought ‘Jurassic Park’ was more appropriate. The quick attempt to get the barrier up had us using what we had lying around… small wood dowels. They weren’t much but enough to last until we got something sturdier. For cost purposes we went with PVC piping.

I was also motivated me to make a few changes in the planting scheme in front of the pond. I was not happy with some of the sedum I used and pulled it out to make room for three clumps of Hakone grass that I’ve been wanting to move to a more prominent location. We added pea gravel and three pavers for maintenance purposes. They’ll make things easier when we have to clean filters and such, as well as adding ledges for various containers. I like this new direction with the plants and will look much nicer when the wall comes down in a few months.

Here’s Harry, by the way.

Here’s to a safe and fabulous weekend!

Bon Weekend

We found an old ceramic welcome mobile in the trash pile at the previous house (we were renting) and I saved the fish. I’ve tried but haven’t been able to think of a clever use for them so I added them to the pond a couple weeks ago. The fish seem to like them and seem to ‘hang’ out with them quite a bit. I’m thinking we’ll transfer them to the big pond once it’s in place.

Here’s to a safe and fabulous weekend!

Bon Weekend – Snappy shakers

I ran across these vintage Japanese lobster claw salt & pepper shakers while trying to find more information on the lobster boxes. After a couple of days I decided I couldn’t resist them and paid for them. They arrived yesterday and are adorning on of the shelves (they’ve currently replaced the rooster) in the breakfast nook.

They’re so cute I want to pinch them. Yeah, I went there. 🙂 Have a safe and fabulous weekend!
