Dinner with the Mad Scientist ll and Brooklyn Limestone Feature

Hello Brooklyn Limestone readers, and those still hanging around these parts! I’ve been a reader for several years and Stefanie’s decorations|party ideas knock my socks off, and I look forward to her Halloween posts with great anticipation! When she contacted me about a feature after I left a recent comment on the blog, I couldn’t say ‘yes’ fast enough.

We’re continuing the Dinner with the Mad Scientist theme from two years ago. Most of the usual suspects have returned and we’ve collected a few new pieces since. The previous post has information on many of the details we repurposed this year. I have also updated the Aged Specimen Jar Label DIY post.

Smaller images can be clicked to view larger versions.

Michael came up with the idea to add some Sharpie solution to the dark green I was using for the large specimen jars and the effect is delightfully eerie. We also played with a black light behind the jars while taking a few of the photos. (more…)

Painter’s Tape DIY Contest Finalist

A couple weeks ago I sent in my entry for the Painter’s Tape DIY Contest. I was thrilled to receive an email that my project was selected as one of the top 20 finalists (psst… it’s the painted planter)!

All the entries in the groupings are incredible and wow, I’m honored to be included among such great work. Please go look at the Group 1 and vote for your favorite from that group.

Thanks again, D*S and I’m already planning a project from Group 1.

Celebration!

The news I mentioned on Monday? Well, back in May, Apartment Therapy posted a call for House Tour contributors. I eagerly jumped at the opportunity and sent in my house tour… those photos of Hollie’s amazing home! I was offered one a spot on the team at the end of last week! I’ll share a couple of tours (or more!) a month and this is my debut post, which went live yesterday:

Thanks again to Hollie for allowing me to share her home and I’m so excited to be a part of the AT team! Stay tuned for more decor porn!

Bon Weekend – share the love edition

I’m going to end the week with a shout out to another Inman Park Festival vendor, Southeast Succulents. I stumbled upon their booth while on my way to pick up some lunch and to the ATM machine. We NEED sea urchin shells and we can always use more air plants, and the three combo deal just couldn’t be beaten. These are now living in the bedroom and I’m sure we’ll give them some outdoor time every now and then!

Speaking of more air plants, we grabbed a couple while we were at Hyams the other day. We needed to replace the ones we lost over the winter. We also decided to attach them to an old hanging planter in hopes of making it easier to bring them inside when the cold weather is upon us once again. The old branch screwed to the railing wasn’t as easy. 😉

Thanks so much, we really enjoy the new additions to the family!

Also, I would like to thank Apartment Therapy for including our garden space as part of their Great Outdoors series. We have a long way to go but I hope we’ve provided a little inspiration.

Thank you, Kelly Sauer!

A couple weeks back I had the pleasure to meet Kelly Sauer while she snapped a few photos of my booth. The Farmers Market is a great place to take photos, that’s for sure! Kelly and her husband happened upon the booth during lull in activity. That allowed me time to talk a bit and watch. I love to watch photographers. I got an email yesterday letting me know she posted some of the images on her blog. They’re fantastic and I even blushed when I read her wonderful write-up! Please check out the rest of her work, it is gorgeous.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Kelly!

We would love, love, love your vote!

Apartment Therapy’s Room for Color Contest

We decided enter the breakfast nook in Apartment Therapy’s Room for Color contest and we got the email that we’re in! I did email them to ask about the magazine and if it was a conflict of interest and I never heard back so I felt that was a green light. Each of the 4 division winners will receive a $1,000 gift card from Farrow & Ball. They carry some wallpaper that I’ve had my eye on for some time now and this would allow us to buy it (we’d be able to do an accent wall). We didn’t win anything monetary for the other, just bragging rights. I promise I’m not trying to be greedy, I just want some of that wallpaper. 🙂

Click on the link or the photo to take you to our page!

I am also going to use this opportunity to mention my friend Eve and her gloriously colorful bedroom. *You can favorite/vote for more than one entry, even in each division.*

I am going to let Puss-Puss ask for your votes!

The Breakfast Nook

We’ve been dealing with buying a new refrigerator for my mother’s condo the last couple of days. Not exactly what we were expecting when we woke up Monday morning, but we love the tenants and needed get them something ASAP. Lowe’s made it happen, as did the Lowe’s card.

Anyway, I’ve been meaning to make the breakfast nook post for sometime but the Charleston Home Magazine site needed to be updated. We got our copy of the magazine just before the beginning of the month. It’ll be available until the spring and the online version of the article can be found HERE. That was a helpful hint to go buy a copy! The photos were taken by Julia Lynn. Check out her site, her work is wonderful. We had a wonderful time working with Julia and Ellen, the magazine’s director. Thanks again for selecting our space!

Charleston Home Magazine

I took some new photos of the room last week and I’ll share them with you along with some of the history of various elements in the room.

It started with an inspiration photo featuring the shelves and then veered way off course. The shelves were purchased from Pottery Barn and as much as I love them, they were a splurge. I found this DIY solution on Pinterest that may serve as inspiration. Other new purchases include the rug, chairs and seat cushions, all purchased from World Market. Paint color is Wasabi by Valspar.

One-Room Revamp Challenge – Sneak Peek

Early this summer we entered Charleston Home Magazine’s One-Room Revamp Challenge. Lo and behold we’re one of the runners-up and our breakfast nook will be featured in the Fall/Winter issue, which will be out next week. I snapped a photo from the kitchen after the photo shoot and since it’s close to being out, I wanted to share the news.

I’ll post more info next week!
