Sneak Peek – Painted chevron and spikes clay pot

Here is sneak peek at a painting project I worked on last week… which took a week to complete! I’m very happy with it and I’ll share the rest of the project in the next couple of weeks.

One more from last week

We picked up two vintage marble top plant stands last week in desperate need of some TLC on the legs. We bought them from the same place we bought the bar cart, magazine rack and some other odds and ends. I’m envisioning these living in the breakfast nook, in front of the curtain panels, but one may also go in the living room. I can’t decide which color direction I should go with the paint… a shade of red or maintain a gold/champagne tone.

This gorgeous bar cart before & after on Design*Sponge has me thinking of revisiting it’s ‘golden’ years.

Project hoarding

I found this chair on Craigslist for a few bucks and have visions of redoing it with some awesome fabric and paint. I think it has great potential and if it doesn’t work we can donate it to Habitat. More to come…

Monsters in the closet

It happened again, I hit storage maximum capacity in the room. There was nowhere to turn but the closet of doom. What laid behind this door terrified me more than Sulley ever could and I’m afraid that even he wouldn’t work from this closet.

Let’s take look, shall we? (more…)

Bon Weekend – Urchin for details

I was putting together another ‘Delve into 2012’ post dedicated to the upstairs guest room. I went to snag the URL for the bedside tables and mocked myself for never buying the seafoam Urchin Test knobs (and are we sure they’re not poppy pods?) from Anthropologie. I’d had them on my wish list since they came out and I watched as they dropped from $8 to $2.95 and stayed glued to my seat with inactivity until they were no longer available. I googled them for an image source when I stumbled upon them at the site. What? I got greedy and immediately placed an order for 8 and I was told there weren’t that many remaining, so I tried again and selected 4. Hurray, the order went through. I was ecstatic. I got my confirmation email and was happy. Later in the evening I received the tracking info and saw that only three were shipping. I didn’t care, I really only wanted two in the first place and was happy to have an extra… just in case. I decided to click on the item link and was greeted with ‘We’re sorry. This item is no longer available’. Did I just score the last three seafoam colored knobs? I don’t know, but I do know I’m pretty stoked right now.

Cheers to them arriving safely and going on the tables without issue! I think they’ll look quite awesome.

We still need to add mirrored tops to the tables.

2011 in review

When I look back on what we did last year I see that we accomplished quite a bit! Sometimes it’s easy to lose track while going through the daily, weekly and monthly grind. Here are the highlights of what we did/made…

Bedroom
We went from ugh to ah in a matter of months. I was frustrated with myself for putting off starting a few things but in the end I think it worked for the better!

What we did in 2011:
Painting and a needed update for our bedspread. I’m still thinking of going with white and accenting with color through pillows.
Hung our Nelson bubble lamps.
Starry pelmet

What we need to work on/finish:
Recover bedside stools & redo lamps
Wood floors or decent carpeting
Louvered door for the closet

Stay tuned to Offbeat Home this week for the constellation light tutorial!

My Studio
I loved it when we got it set up the previous year but after working in it for a while I realized I needed to make changes.

What we did in 2011:
Made the steel prep table mobile
New flooring
New center work table
Reorganized the layout

Window shelf (in action)
Thread storage

What we need to work on/finish:
More shelving
The closet of doom

Breakfast Nook
A lackluster and unused space became a family project. Mom served for much of the inspiration.

Instagram is hijacking my blog

With shows every weekend until Christmas, needing to get the house decorated and various other goodies, I can’t say NO to it.

It was around 90° yesterday but we got the tree. It’s gorgeous.

We got the lights up last night.

And this is a teaser of a project Michael is working on for mom.

The thread racks are up and I love them! I had no idea I had that much thread…

Back to work!

Fabric for the old footstools.

I LOVE vintage barkcloth. To be honest, I haven’t been actively looking for any. Instead, I have been gathering fabric samples from some of the local stores that sell fabric for home decor. I found a few that I love, one in particular. I was on the fence with it as it was a woven blood red vinyl and would have gone perfectly with the walls, but I’m waffling with red right now. The room is primarily white/black/blue/greens/wood with a touch of red. The red may be too overpowering but WOW it would be awesome. We were out picking up supplies and using coupons yesterday when I ran into this delightful vintage barkcloth feel fabric at Hancock’s and it was 50% off (it is normally $35 a yard)! We had a yard cut and I mocked up the stool with the intended hexagonal tray and new lamps

This image clicks to a larger version.

Now I’m thinking I may still get the vinyl for just in case. I should probably check for sales as it’s $50.00 a yard currently.

One day we’ll frame the old paint-by-number paintings!

Bedroom progress

The week is half over and I still need to do a write-up of the Lowcountry Artist Market, which was a lot of fun. In the meantime, here is some bedroom progress to share!

We’ve needed a dresser in the bedroom since we’ve moved in but nothing has happened, for a variety of reasons. I have been hoping to score something close to a campaign chest for some time now. I came close to one at one of our local Habitats, but we didn’t have the extra funds at that time and it was gone when we went back. This particular Habitat is on the pricey side, btw. We’ve had a rattan dresser in the garage. My mother has had it for years but sometimes I have an aversion to it. But push came to shove on Sunday and Michael pulled it out, cleaned it and we brought it upstairs. I was originally thinking we’d shove it in the closet but something got the better of me and I put it in the corner on my side of the room. I like it. I think it works. I may eventually paint it but for now, it works. Oh, and several treasured pieces have been able to come out of storage we well! The red magazine rack refurb can be found in this post.

The Leo light can be seen lit up here. We still need to add the extra lights on the board and decide if it’s going to live there. I’m considering moving the Jane Avril over when we finish a frame project we found at a thrift store.

Here it is June, after we changed the comforter and I found the mirror, which I needed for the Farmers Market.

We bought the lamp two years ago with the intention of painting the wood and brass elements, but nothing has been done to it. So, I changed the lamp shade (we had the same color and style in house) and put it out. I have been able to make use of a small display case we found while thrifting earlier in the year.

Apartment Therapy’s Room for Color Contest

We decided enter the breakfast nook in Apartment Therapy’s Room for Color contest and we got the email that we’re in! I did email them to ask about the magazine and if it was a conflict of interest and I never heard back so I felt that was a green light. Each of the 4 division winners will receive a $1,000 gift card from Farrow & Ball. They carry some wallpaper that I’ve had my eye on for some time now and this would allow us to buy it (we’d be able to do an accent wall). We didn’t win anything monetary for the other, just bragging rights. I promise I’m not trying to be greedy, I just want some of that wallpaper. 🙂

Click on the link or the photo to take you to our page!

I am also going to use this opportunity to mention my friend Eve and her gloriously colorful bedroom. *You can favorite/vote for more than one entry, even in each division.*

I am going to let Puss-Puss ask for your votes!
