Go bold or go home

I took advantage of some $5 shelter magazine subscriptions over the holidays and we’re now getting House Beautiful. Part of me is experiencing some green guilt but there is nothing like holding a magazine in hand and seeing beautiful inspiration so close. This month’s issue is all about green, my favorite color. When I got to the page featuring a dining room styled by Meg Braff, I knew I’d found a breath of fresh inspiration for the dining room.

I love the grey in the dining room but the white lacks personality.

I think the green (in gloss) would be lovely addition to the room. I have several paint swatches that need to go on the wall. I think this could work.

Oh hai, apparently I’ve been nominated in the Best DIY Blog category!

The one that got away

I’ve been in love with this dresser since it was posted on Design*Sponge. I immediately pinned it to my bedroom board but also dreamt of how it would look in the guest room… in orange. Miraculously, one showed up on Craigslist as part of a bedroom suite. I was willing to take it all just for the dresser and mirror. I had my grubby little hands on it last week when fate and responsibility walked into the room. After managing a situation, I was ready to call the seller at the end of the week to see it was still available. But then I realized that business licenses and insurance for my Farmers Market booth/other events were due this week.

I firmly believe that another one or something else that I will love as equally is out there. I’d rather have my booth!

A post of a different color

Happy Monday! I don’t normally do posts like this but as this is something of particular interest to me, I am going to try to pique your interest. I am passionate about corsets. I am even more passionate about well made corsets. I would love to take on local clients and create works of art for them.

Alexis Black of Electra Designs Corsetry has a Kickstarter page going to raise funds to create a collection of educational materials for corset making. I first became an admirer of Alexis’ work in 2005 when our friend Ingrid Houwers received her gorgeous bespoke peridot green silk corset. I’ve watched through the years as Alexis has continually raised the bar with her technique. She has been very giving to the corset making/sewing community, and I’ve benefitted not only from her knowledge but also from group ribbon and twill tape orders

Making every corset is a learning experience. Now we have an opportunity to benefit from her years of experience and knowledge. So, if you or anyone you know has ever been interested in corsetry, please take a moment to watch the video, read the updates, pledge, share and help make this possible for all of us! The pledge drive ends this Friday!

You can see more of her incredible work on on Facebook.

Thank you!

Gaps in time

Last week found me scrambling about in preparation for a wicked fast trip to Atlanta. I picked up 15 yards of vinyl (thank goodness for the closet reorg) and now I’m ready to roll with some sassy new bags. I have the Lowcountry Artist Market coming up this Saturday and will have several available for sale! I’ll have some goodies to share this week, so stay tuned!

Bon Weekend – under the sea

The antique sea life prints arrived yesterday and they’re lovely. We’re having the Edmund Dulac print framed by a cousin as a wedding gift. She reminded me that we never collected on her offer (it’s been almost three years now), so now we are! Better late than never, eh? I’m glad that I’ll have these to take along for the ride. I’m thinking we’ll be able to do some serious brainstorming.

Bon weekend, I hope it’ll be safe and fabulous!

Houston, we have paint colors

Last week I ran out to pick up more paint swatches and have narrowed them down to these. I’m going back and forth on the blue (I’m not matching the exact color in Photoshop). I tweaked the mint color just a tad but I think we’re ready to go forward with the ceiling (mint) and first layer of blue on the walls.

We also ordered wallpaper samples for mom’s bathroom. I’ll post those when they arrive. I’m glad she’s getting excited about everything!

Mail order love

A couple weeks ago I pinned a photo of a Begonia ‘Curly Fireflush’. I knew we had to have one so I headed out to Hyams to see if they had any but no luck so next was Abide-A-While. Again, no luck but I didn’t leave either establishment without some other beautiful tropical begonias! I turned to the trusty old internet and discovered Logee’s, based out of Connecticut, to find my precious. I placed my order on the first and my box arrived yesterday. I added a couple more plants to the order to even out the shipping and they arrived happy and healthy! They’re shipped in adorable 2.5″ pots and I’ll most likely repot them tomorrow as they don’t seem to be in any kind of shock.

Thanks Logee’s, you’ve earned a new customer for harder to find plants!

Bon Weekend – I love sea life

I completely forgot that I snagged this print last week as I was gathering guest room print ideas!

From the Etsy listing:
Edmund Dulac Fairy Tale Paintings
Edmund Dulac, born Edmond Dulac, October 22, 1882 – May 25, 1953, was a French book illustrator prominent during the so called “Golden Age of Illustration”.

Have a safe and fabulous weekend!

Art Crush – Jennifer Trask

I’ve seen Jennifer Trask’s work before and was reacquainted with it during a search of another artist. Her work involving bone, antler, wood and pre-ban ivory is beyond my words.

Monsters in the closet

It happened again, I hit storage maximum capacity in the room. There was nowhere to turn but the closet of doom. What laid behind this door terrified me more than Sulley ever could and I’m afraid that even he wouldn’t work from this closet.

Let’s take look, shall we? (more…)
