Charleston Farmers Market

Every weekend in December the Charleston Farmers Market is open Saturday AND Sunday! We’ll be back downtown in the morning, but I wanted to share today’s score from Sea Island Savory Herbs. I was tickled to no end with Danielle’s creation. She has several vintage goods bursting with succulents. Please check them out and take one home!

Bon Weekend

I’m so very thankful that the issues in my last post were resolved quickly and rather painlessly. Michael is now the proud owner of a new phone (he’s like a kid with new puppy) and Best Buy exchanged the DVD player. Apparently they only have a 30 day grace period, including total failure, but they were more than happy to do it.

I have been working on a new round of pillows that will be finished tonight and hopefully be for sale tomorrow!

Have a great weekend.

Something funky in town

Hmm… despite yesterday’s YAY post, there is something funky in town. In the past week we’ve seen the power source in Michael’s computer die, his phone died (he’s eligible for his upgrade so that’s awesome), the DVD player died (bought in August), and one of the pegs broke off the thread rack while Michael was painting it yesterday. I seem to be encountering some oddness in the studio in the last day. Malkie has been hard at work trying to distract us with his utter cuteness, so I had to take a bunch of photos. He’s commandeered my ironing ham.

And one of Junior, in one of his less grumpy moments.

I’m feeling much better now.

Oh Instagram, may I never tire of you.

Michael mostly finished my new spool and bobbin holders yesterday! I had two of these little things at the other house but I quickly outgrew them and I wasn’t happy that I couldn’t hang my bobbin with it’s matching spool. But now, I’m just one step away! Okay, two if you count mounting. I thought we had enough green spray paint left over from one of our chairs, but alas, not. I don’t know what color it will be but I will post the finished pieces tomorrow.

Fabric for the old footstools.

I LOVE vintage barkcloth. To be honest, I haven’t been actively looking for any. Instead, I have been gathering fabric samples from some of the local stores that sell fabric for home decor. I found a few that I love, one in particular. I was on the fence with it as it was a woven blood red vinyl and would have gone perfectly with the walls, but I’m waffling with red right now. The room is primarily white/black/blue/greens/wood with a touch of red. The red may be too overpowering but WOW it would be awesome. We were out picking up supplies and using coupons yesterday when I ran into this delightful vintage barkcloth feel fabric at Hancock’s and it was 50% off (it is normally $35 a yard)! We had a yard cut and I mocked up the stool with the intended hexagonal tray and new lamps

Now I’m thinking I may still get the vinyl for just in case. I should probably check for sales as it’s $50.00 a yard currently.

One day we’ll frame the old paint-by-number paintings!

The Happy Heathen on Etsy

I posted the bat garland update earlier and now it’s time to ‘officially’ share the new line of housewares I’ve been working on… sassy silk pillows! I really, really love making them and have a ton of ideas for the screens. I’m actually burning a couple after I get my social networking done for the day. Just click on the image below or just go the The Happy Heathen Etsy!

I hope you like these as much as I love making them.

Bon Weekend – Getting festive

We had a lovely gathering at one of our relatives’ house and today we’re cooking our own dinner! I don’t have any photos of the table my mother put together, so I’ll continue to share her setup from a couple years back, which was really beautiful!

If you’re participating in Black Friday please, please support independent/local artists & boutiques/online shops. 🙂

ETA – Ha, I had no idea about Small Business Saturday!

Bedroom progress

The week is half over and I still need to do a write-up of the Lowcountry Artist Market, which was a lot of fun. In the meantime, here is some bedroom progress to share!

We’ve needed a dresser in the bedroom since we’ve moved in but nothing has happened, for a variety of reasons. I have been hoping to score something close to a campaign chest for some time now. I came close to one at one of our local Habitats, but we didn’t have the extra funds at that time and it was gone when we went back. This particular Habitat is on the pricey side, btw. We’ve had a rattan dresser in the garage. My mother has had it for years but sometimes I have an aversion to it. But push came to shove on Sunday and Michael pulled it out, cleaned it and we brought it upstairs. I was originally thinking we’d shove it in the closet but something got the better of me and I put it in the corner on my side of the room. I like it. I think it works. I may eventually paint it but for now, it works. Oh, and several treasured pieces have been able to come out of storage we well! The red magazine rack refurb can be found in this post.

The Leo light can be seen lit up here. We still need to add the extra lights on the board and decide if it’s going to live there. I’m considering moving the Jane Avril over when we finish a frame project we found at a thrift store.

Here it is June, after we changed the comforter and I found the mirror, which I needed for the Farmers Market.

We bought the lamp two years ago with the intention of painting the wood and brass elements, but nothing has been done to it. So, I changed the lamp shade (we had the same color and style in house) and put it out. I have been able to make use of a small display case we found while thrifting earlier in the year.

One more for today

I just finished this pillow and I’m pretty pleased with it, so I wanted to share it! I have several more that I’m trying to finish as fast as possible. I do wish I was at this point LAST week!

I hope to get some decent photos tomorrow!

Bon Weekend – Muwhahahahahah!

We’re a few steps closer to next year’s frightening show. Michael had an old 22 amp variac that needed work because of water damage. He fixed it and then built a beautiful case to house it. The meter is vintage Weston that he modified by installing two blue LED’s inside.

As the title states… Muwhahahahahahahahaha!

Only three days left!
